Mozambique

Mozambique

Mozambique is a magical mix of African, old Portuguese, and Arab influences. The long Indian Ocean coastline with its sandy white beaches, clear waters and lofty coconut trees beckon. Life is fresh here, just like the seafood, the cashew nuts and the coconuts and if it’s sunshine that you’re after – there’s plenty of that too. So grab a Portuguese phrase book, a fistful of Meticais and drift into Mozambique time…

Ponta D'ouro

Ponta do Ouro is a beach destination in southern Mozambique; it means “Place of Gold”  after the glorious sunrise that is enjoyed from the beach. The town is close to the northern border of South Africa’s KwaZulu Natal province, though you’ll need a 4x4 to get there. Scuba diving, snorkeling, beautiful white beaches, open air markets, cantinas, dense sand dunes and rustic restaurants are all popular in Ponta. The sea off Ponta is warm and crystal clear and there are many tropical species of fish and invertebrates to look out for. There is also the chance to swim with dolphins and learn more about these fascinating animals.  You also have the Maputo Elephant Reserve just 50km north of Ponto where you can spot some elephants, duiker and small antelope.
