With roots in mining dating back to 1886 when gold was discovered, Johannesburg exploded from a dusty, crowded mining camp into the modern economic hub of South Africa. Jo’burg maintains some of its untamed ways, although flash cars have replaced the wildlife. Jo’burgs’ got a character that is loud, fast, brash, sophisticated and unapologetic.
