White Shark Africa
Our fascination with the Great White Shark
Great White Sharks fascinate humans for many reasons. For some, it may be their imposing size. For others, it may be their graceful beauty, how perfectly they’re adapted to patrolling the oceans or perhaps their powerful predatory behaviour that instils pure fear in our hearts. Or perhaps it’s the mysteries surrounding this spectacular shark that beckons us to come closer
and closer……
Shark cage diving in Mossel Bay
Mossel Bay is without a doubt one of the best White Shark sites in the world. It is about 350km from Cape Town on the Garden Route and has arguably the most stable weather in the country.
We dive around Seal Island which gives you a chance to observe “breaching” and attacks on seals. Divers and non-divers alike are welcome. The ride to the island from the harbour takes about 10 minutes Water temperature is between 15 and 24˚C and visibility is between 5 to 20 metres.
Our boat
Our boat, the “Shark Warrior” is a modern, 11.5m long and 4m wide motor-cat that was custom-built for shark cage diving. It has a large viewing platform on top and space on the main deck for seating and viewing. It is equipped with toilet in the main cabin. “Shark Warrior” isn’t exactly the QE II but was designed with your comfort in mind.
Your day trip
We meet at our office an hour before launch for a chat, breakfast and a briefing. From there, it’s a ten minute ride to the dive site. To find the Great White Sharks, we bait, chum and wait. It can take several minutes or several hours for the first shark to appear. While we enjoy a high success rate, we appreciate your understanding that nothing is guaranteed.
When the sharks approach the boat, we lower the cages into the water for the diving. The sharks tend to get close enough to the surface for non-divers to get a good view from topside.
The average length of a trip is four hours. We offer a light lunch, snacks and drinks on board. Upon return to the dock, we offer afternoon tea and hand out the certificate of the day to all our guests.
Included
- Buffet breakfast at launch site
- Light lunch, snacks and refreshments on the boat
- Diving & viewing
- Wetsuits and dive equipment in all sizes
- Afternoon tea on return
- Certificate of your White Shark Experience
Some friendly advice
- Please don’t eat foods with loads of fibre before going on a shark trip with us. Stay off the figs and plums or the next client using the wetsuit might not appreciate the result!
- Please don’t board our boat without sunscreen, towel, swimwear (if diving), camera, hat /cap (we sell really cool ones) and a warm jacket
- If you are prone to motion sickness, hmm! No train smash. Just make sure you purge either before or after you get on or off our boat or take a seasickness tablet the night before and again 2 hours prior to boarding the boat
