Canopy Tours Autumn 2011 news

Up here at the top of Southern Africa’s quiet forests and mountains we’ve started to get a little tired of all this loud election talk. So now that we’ve all voted (you did vote, didn’t you?) we thought a little bit of fresh forest air and adventure talk may be just what you need. Plus if you swing all the way through to the end of this newsletter you’ll see that we’ve offered a whopping big electioneering type promise to everyone who receives this email!

2011 is the global year of forests

The United Nations General Assembly declared 2011 as the International Year of Forests to raise awareness on sustainable management, conservation and sustainable development of all types of forests. Forests are home to 80% of our terrestrial biodiversity and are the living breathing opposite of a man made city. If you haven’t explored a forest up close and personal it really is time you made the effort. The easiest way is by simply taking a slow walk through one of South Africa’s many forest reserves. Even better, come enjoy an exciting Canopy Tour® with friends or family where you can learn all about the forest from our excellent guides.

Stephanie Ellis waited for a break in the rain to brave the tour with some excited clients and filed this report.

From Holland with love

It seems our recent story of a couple getting engaged whilst on the Drakensberg Canopy Tour® has sparked off a new wave of Canopy Tour engagements! Topping the list for both effort and location was Supke and Renatha from Holland. Supke arranged for a table with champagne, roses and snacks to be placed on the largest platform at the Malolotja Canopy Tour® in Swaziland, aptly named ‘The Hotel’, and dropped down on one knee to ask girlfriend of 18 years, Renatha, to marry him. Both couples were safely harnessed to the mountainside during the ceremony and plan to return to Swaziland for a ‘ground level’ official Swazi style wedding. Congratulations to you both!
