Bomvu = Terrible!
by Nicole
on January 14, 2011
A group of us also stayed at Bomvu backpackers over New Years 2011. It was a terrible experience.

Our campsite was on "Festival Grounds" due to the lack of space and over bookings. There wasn't a proper pathway down to the extra piece of campsite, slipping and sliding down there was no trees, no shade, no electricity, no bathrooms - only longdrops. Not acceptable for R80 per night!

Due to there being a New Years party on our campsite we were worried about safety and noise. We refused to camp there and were placed in the local schools classrooms. Ultimately we had a roof over our heads but no kitchen facilities and no bathroom facilities - again only longdrops and again NOT acceptable for R80 per night. On our second last day we were told to pay extra for the school's electricity and parking on school grounds.

Bomvu management also decided to close their bar at 9pm on New Years eve to try and force the residents to pay R250 and join the New Years party.

Bomvu's reception was often filled with people complaining and trying to sort out their bookings whereby they just shrugged their shoulders. It was a mess and I would not recommend Bomvu to anyone!

Bad management
by Rowa
on January 3, 2011
They double booked over Dec, our campsite was some ground they leveled in the bush which became a swamp after some rain. Then we were given the option to camp at the local school which was also waterlogged. People arrived and had literally no place to stay. It was horrible and degrading to expect your paying customers to live like that. I felt like a homeless person squatting in a school classroom with long drops being the closest thing to a toilet.
