Mozambique is closer than you think!

Only 25 minutes away from the South African border crossing in Kosi Bay you will find a small beach town called Ponta D’ouro. You have to 4-wheel over sand dunes and past small villages to get here. There are no paved roads, but there are friendly people and amazing beaches.

Kaya Kweru Backpackers is only 40 meter’s from a beautiful stretch of Ponta beach. Spend the day swimming, snorkeling, fishing, surfing or just lazing in the sun. Join the locals in the shebeens, or Barakas as they are known here. Try the famous local rum drink, R&R, and sit down to a huge plate of fresh prawns.

The dorm rooms sleep 4, have air-conditioning and en suite bathrooms. If you want some luxury, we also have en suite double rooms and family rooms that sleep 4.
There is a private self-catering kitchen but if you don’t feel like cooking, then you can have a meal at the poolside restaurant and taste the owner’s homemade peri-peri sauce. There is also a sport bar and a roof-top patio which is a great place from which to enjoy the sea view.

We have a shuttle service that runs daily to the Kosi Bay border with South Africa and twice weekly to Maputo.
