Thornhill Safari Lodge Affiliations

Thornhill Safari Lodge offers an affordable getaway with comfortable rooms and excellent facilities in 13 authentic thatch-roof chalets. All bedrooms have en suite facilities, overhead fans, mosquito nets and wooden decks that overlook the lodge, pool area and surrounding bushveld. Optional extra game drive activities are available and we also offer daily return transfers to the lodge departing from Johannesburg and Nelspruit.

Directions to Thornhill Safari Lodge

Take the N4 from JHB / Pretoria. Bypass Witbank and Middelburg, continue onto Belfast. From Belfast travel towards Dullstroom and then onto Lydenburg. From Lydenburg take the R36 to Orighstad and continue straight until you pass through the JG Strijdom Tunnel. From the tunnel continue for approx. 27 km.  Turn right at R531 to Orpen Gate. Continue straight along the R531for approx. 32km road until you reach a sign pointing to Orpen & South African Wildlife College R531. Turn left and continue on the R531 for about 2 km. Turn left onto the first dirt road, Guernsey Road. Pass through the Security Gates. Continue on the dirt road for about 15 km. It will take +/- 40 min to drive this section.
As you pass Phelwana game farm slow down.  The entrance will be on your right hand side.  “Guernsey Private Nature Reserve” will mark the entrance. Continue on the little dirt road until you get to the big guarded gate of the Guernsey Conservancy.  After you have entered at this gate, please follow the signs to the Thornhill Safari Lodge. Please note that the gate closes at 20.30, however the reserve is still accessible after that time.

Please note check in is between 12:00 – 13:00. Lunch will be served around 13:30.

We do not recommend travelling in the evening as due to there being no public lights in the area the roads can be dangerous at night as you may not be able to see cows, goats or potholes in the road. For your safety please try to arrive before it gets dark.
