A true Big Five game safari in the Timbavati Private Game Reserve, part of the greater Kruger National Park. Shindzela offers prime game viewing in a beautiful wilderness area within the Reserve. We focus on walking safaris and tracking animals on foot, but also offer day and night game drives in open vehicles. S
The camp
Shindzela is an authentic tented safari camp that accommodates just 12 guests. It’s simple, comfortable and deliberately undeveloped to offer guests the undisturbed wilderness experience. The camp runs solar energy and has no modern electronics like television and cellphones to disturb the African wilderness.
Each twin bed safari tent has a thatch roof, porch, bedding, towels and mesh to keep the mosquitoes out. The ablutions are separate.
There is a dining tent in which to enjoy homemade meals and warm African hospitality. Our meals are tasty and homemade, with lots of fresh fruit, veg and salads. The central fireplace is the place to gather to relive the day’s experiences.
Game viewing in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve
The Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, South Africa, is home to over 40 mammal species, including Africa’s “Big Five” animals (lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo and elephant). Other game that you may see here on safari includes hyena, jackal, giraffe, hippo, wild dog, zebra, kudu and impala, to mention just a few. There are over 350 bird species recorded in the Reserve. The Timbavati Reserve is open to the Kruger National Park, providing animals with a vast expanse of wilderness in which to roam, free of fences.
We offer day and night game drives in open vehicles.
Kruger Walking Safaris
We offer wilderness walking safaris in a “Big Five” game viewing area in the Timbavati Nature Reserve.
Trails are anything from 2 – 4 hours long. All wildlife walking safaris are led by a professional, experienced safari guide who is armed. We also have a tracker who serves as back up. Each safari guide takes a maximum of 8 guests on a walking trail.
Our ethos
While we make every effort to seek out the “Big Five” animals (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhino), we focus on the whole safari environment, showing appreciation for all aspects of the wilderness – animal behaviour and habitat, trees, insect and plant life, as well as viewing all the other species of game found in the bush.
