Amberley travellers Lodge

Big Blue Backpackers Hostel - Cape Town

Abstract: LOVINGLY RESTORED CLASSIC OLD MANSION

Description:

Amberley Travellers Lodge, situated between the mountains and the sea, provides quiet and comfortable accommodation in a stunning old house with a special homely ambience.

Facilities:
We have private double rooms and rooms with two to four single beds. No grotty bunk beds here! There is a spacious fully equipped self-catering kitchen, laundry, Internet/email facility, a comfortable lounge and dining room and a separate common room with Satellite TV.

Activites:
Muizenberg is perfectly located for outdoor activities.
Popular sport and traditional rock climbing is within walking distance. Many of the Western Capes best day walks start from out doorstep. We are on the slopes of the Peninsula Mountain chain that has many hiking trails with caves, forests and wonderful views of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. The richness and variety of the wild flowers is breathtaking.

For easier walking follow the path along the edge of False Bay for an hour or so to Kalk Bay with its quaint wooden boat fishing harbour and excellent selection of coffee shops, restaurants, art galleries and junk shops.

Muizenberg beach is excellent for surfing and bathing. Several surf shops line the beachfront, providing everything and anything related to surfing. On offer are lessons for beginners, outings to all the beast breaks around greater Cape Town, surfboard and wetsuit rentals, sales and repairs and more.

Historical and Cultural:
Muizenberg is one of the first areas of South Africa to be colonised and the area has some of the oldest buildings in the country and many fascinating old mansions, of which several are open to the public. Among the mountain caves are archaeological sites with evidence of ancient human habitation. More modern cavemen can still be found in the dungeons of the wilder local bars where the rock is all electric and roars all night! And for the milder folk, the beachfront has some wonderful coffee shops.
